Skipped a Beat

I felt my heart skip a beat and I had to take two deep breaths to calm down when I exited my car when picking up the kids from school today.. weird I guess!

And why is it that junior grade kids *always* wants to visit each other? You’ll see kids gravitate towards parents asking “daddy, can he come along…” or “daddy, can I go to…”. It’s the age I assume but still.. Today I only managed half of the requests I got :)

Now its off to my sons 1.5 hours outdoor soccer practice ; wonder how that will be during winter .. no wonder it is assumed that only 2/3 will still be on the team when spring comes.

Update ! After spending almost two hours outside at +2c I think I can say that the kids will be OK as long as they keep in activity. On looking parents however will need to be well clad in order to stay warm ; alternatively be in activity themselves (excellent paths for running close by) or simply go home :)

I intended to go out for a run myself afterwards, but I feel I have to thaw first so we’ll see…

Neverwhere

I recently picked up on Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere as recommended by the book store. Even though I knew some of his work from Sandman, I started reading without much anticipation but it turned out to be a very very good read.

The introduction simply tells it all and should prepare you for a very enjoyable ride.

Richard Mayhew is an unassuming young businessman living in London, with a dull job and a pretty but demanding fiancee. Then one night he stumbles across a girl bleeding on the sidewalk. He stops to help her–and the life he knows vanishes like smoke.

This one is highly recommended!

Still Going On

Life isn’t too bad these days although I can see areas of improvement.  Work is fun, still manage a few hours of training each week, life obviously got better with the new bike, the kids are mostly behaving (they’re kids after all)m even connecting with old friends but still …

Areas of improvement … oh, definitely!!

The Source

Looking at my blog stats I see that my most popular article one about installing Turbo Delphi on Vista RC ! Kind of weird that the old post is still valid (and “popular”), but I guess this is the only solution…

Most likely this reflects on how few actually drops in my world :)

Missed the Fun

Went for a run yesterday and I have probably been cycling, both indoors and outdoors, too much lately because I had missed how fun it was! :)

Although the path is floodlit its still quite dark so a headlamp is a necessary requirement. I am not sure my 1-LED headlamp is strong enough as I managed to slip and fall quite a few times in the mud, however I only got stuck once!

Somehow all our MP3 players go missing from time to time so I found old friend; my trusty iPod Shuffle v2 which is the perfect companion for running since its so light and easy to use. However I cant have been in a good mood last time I used it because it was full of happy-sad songs including a long version of “Bleeding Love”

You cut me open and I … keep bleeding .. keep keep bleeding love

Ha-ha

Well, it won’t be soon until next time :)

35 Weeks Left

Just a friendly reminder that there is only 35 weeks left until the support for Windows 2000 and Windowx XP SP2.

image

Windows 2000 users should upgrade to a newer version of Windows and XP SP2 users should upgrade to SP3.

Windows 7 USB / DVD Extraction Tool

Its actually called Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool, but that is weird since it doesn’t download anything. However what it does is extracting a Windows 7 ISO image (like what you get from the online Microsoft store, Technet, MSDN or your licensing  site) onto a DVD or a USB device.

image

See http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool for more information.

One tip that is not in the online FAQ yet; extraction on to a USB device will fail with a unknown error if the USB device is open in Explorer. Just close the window and retry the extraction.

Do you know which day it is today?

Have a go at our new look, see http://www.microsoft.no

image

It is now official, Windows 7 in General Availability (GA) and should be in a store near you :)

While I personally think Vista have a undeserved reputation, especially when you have SP1 or SP2 (Yes – do install Service Pack 2 for Vista if you have not already done so!!) you will find Windows 7 to feel much faster, smoother and it just plainly WORKS!!

I am happy all our users and customers now finally can access the final result from all the work we at Microsoft have put into it.

See her for more information [Norwegian link] http://windows.microsoft.com/nb-NO/windows7/products/home?os=nonwin7

Trust us on this, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Windows Virtual PC

Now this is pretty cool.

With the new Windows 7 RC just out we can provide virtualization out of the box by downloading and installing the Windows Virtual PC bits from here.

Note that this also provides the benefit of the Windows XP virtualization mode, but that is outside the scope of this post as it is really only something for businesses and enterprises with special compatibility requirements.

Once the small update is completed you have Virtual PC installed and can run existing VPC images or create new images.

But how? Once you start looking for a management console or search for Virtual PC you see that it is missing.

The solution is to open the Virtual PC folder in your Documents location and use the “Create Virtual Machine” and “Settings” commands directly.
