Windows Virtual PC

Now this is pretty cool.

With the new Windows 7 RC just out we can provide virtualization out of the box by downloading and installing the Windows Virtual PC bits from here.

Note that this also provides the benefit of the Windows XP virtualization mode, but that is outside the scope of this post as it is really only something for businesses and enterprises with special compatibility requirements.

Once the small update is completed you have Virtual PC installed and can run existing VPC images or create new images.

But how? Once you start looking for a management console or search for Virtual PC you see that it is missing.

The solution is to open the Virtual PC folder in your Documents location and use the “Create Virtual Machine” and “Settings” commands directly.

IE8 RTW

Finally we released Internet Explorer 8, the latest, safest and fastest web browser for Windows from Microsoft.

A lot of new changes include

  • Available in 25 languages for Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 within x86 and x64 editions.
  • Performance has been a major area of investment in Internet Explorer 8, and the JavaScript engine itself is 70% faster than the one shipped in IE7.
  • Tab crash isolation – when one tab of the browser fails, it doesn’t bring down the entire browser.
  • New features includes Full CSS 2.1 Support, accelerators, web slices and provider model for Visual Search.
  • There are over 1,200 accelerators, web slices and visual search providers out there already today, including Digg, ESPN, OneRiot, Amazon, Sina, TaoBao, and Yahoo. Get some at http://ieaddons.com
  • IE blocks over a million phishing and malware attacks a month. (Check more at: http://www.nsslabs.com/anti-malware/browser-security

Also since it is running in backwards compatibility mode for Intranet sites (fully configurable of course) there is really no reason not to upgrade!!

Time Flies

Time flies when you are having fun. We are doing so much cool stuff that I am not able to keep up :)

But the most important part is that the snow is melting and you can actually see some asphalt. I have already been out running twice this week, 10 km + on Wednesday and about 5.5 km yesterday!! Whoho, it feels really really nice being out again.

The bike is next now, just a few more weeks.
